Rumored basement haunt somewhere in the five boroughs. Word has it that the East Village, the West Village, and Park Slope are top contenders for what seems to be New York's only actually hidden bar, although Williamsburg is probably just as likely a culprit. Some sort of writers' den, the Wheelhouse is reported—well, whispered—to have a main room with a bar on the left and an ell of booths with—go figure—typewriters at each one. Stranger still, there's supposedly another room, separate from the main bar, that's a hybrid writers' room and lecture room, where something like TED talks for alcoholics and writers take place on an unknown basis. If this place does, in fact, exist, chances are you'll never find it.
