Tom Ford

Upper East Side

Famed American designer Tom Ford's luxury menswear has the forceful intent of, say, his former employer, Gucci, but with a more distinctly individual style, acting more as a look than a brand, as Gucci has always been guilty of the opposite. The flagship Tom Ford store on Madison Avenue is as luxurious and masculine as the clothes it sells: Ford's clothes are like the facade of a steel skyscraper, using the inherent angles and strength of a man's own architecture to make him stand out. Always classy and never tacky, Tom Ford's collection of menswear is the ultimate in statements and stateliness.

Bergdorf Goodman

Midtown

Standing at the crossroads of fashion at Fifth Avenue and 58th Street in New York City, Bergdorf Goodman is known throughout the world for elegance, luxury, and superior service. Discover the evolution of this New York legend below: 1899 Edwin Goodman works for Herman Bergdorf, an immigrant from Alsace, in his tailoring establishment just above Union Square in downtown Manhattan. 1906 Goodman purchases the store from Bergdorf and moves to the site where Rockefeller Center now stands. 1914 Goodman is the first couturier to introduce ready-to-wear, making Bergdorf Goodman the destination for premier American and French fashion. 1928 Bergdorf Goodman moves to its present location, the former site of the great Cornelius Vanderbilt mansion. With Goodman's son, Andrew, as President, the store continues innovations such as an incomparable fur salon, the exclusive Bergdorf Goodman Number Nine perfume, and Miss Bergdorf, a ready-to-wear line for the younger customer. 1953 Goodman retires as the most celebrated merchant of his time, with many accolades including the Legion of Honor from France. 1986 "The Decorative Home on Seven" is created to house antiques, porcelains, silver, crystal, linens, stationery, home furnishings, and delicacies from around the world. Today, the floor is home to Jane Stubbs' first-edition and one-of-a-kind books and prints, along with a special collection of books from Assouline. Luxury stationers Smythson of Bond Street, along with a bridal salon and gift registry, are also housed there. 1990 The Men's Store opens its doors directly across the street at 745 Fifth Avenue. 1997 Formerly the Goodman family residence, the penthouse atop the store, is converted into the John Barrett Salon and Susan Ciminelli Day Spa. 1999 The Beauty Level opens directly below the main floor, offering 15,000 square feet of luxury with eight spa rooms exclusively for facials, skincare consultations and special treatments, and Goodman's Cafe, serving lunch and afternoon tea. 2002 Artisans and craftspeople begin a dramatic restoration of the Main Floor of the Women's Store. 2003 New boutiques open for CHANEL, Giorgio Armani, Gucci, and Yves Saint Laurent. 2004 BergdorfGoodman.com debuts in Fall 2004

Tiffany & Co.

Midtown

Of the sixty-four stores that Tiffany & Co. operate in the United States, no other location—not even all 63 others combined—is as great a cultural landmark as the famous Fifth Avenue flagship store. The company that outfitted jewelry on the Astors, the Vanderbilts, and countless other members of the New York aristocracy over the years, is as famous for its central role in Audrey Hepburn’s Breakfast At Tiffany’s as it is for anything else. So much so, in fact, that you’ll generally hear people refer to the store as “Tifanny’s” instead of the proper name. The store still retains its sparsely decorated, tiny display windows and all of the charm that has defined Tiffany’s for the better part of two centuries. While they no longer design and manufacture swords and flags for the Union Army, their selection of jewelry is still second to none and a must-have item for discerning jewelry-lovers around the world.

Louis Vuitton makes some of the world's most enviable shoes and dresses, so be sure not to let the LV's and little squares distract you from the other goods! The 20-story flagship is located one of New York's most exclusive corners, Fifth Avenue and 57th Street. You'll find all the luxury products you would expect from the house of Vuitton, spanning the full range from haute couture to accessories.

Armani Fifth Avenue

Midtown

Armani/5th Avenue is revealed as a neatly defined and light building completely clad in glass—164 feet long and 45 feet high. Spread over four floors, the store features a retail area of approximately 30,000 square feet of which 5200 is occupied by the Bar and Restaurant. Armani selected the architects Doriana and Massimiliano Fuksas and actively collaborated with them throughout this building, conceived as a single, fluid space brought together by the impact of the vortex of the staircase. The heart of the building is epitomized by the staircase, a structure in rolled calender steel, and clad in plastic material that highlights its exceptional sculptural presence. This fabulous concept store brings together the world of Armani: For signature shopping, there is no better place to start than on the ground floor for Emporio Armani and Giorgio Armani accessories as well as the Emporio Armani collection for women. Down in the basement is the realm of those who favor a casual style of dress: Armani Jeans, EA7—the sports line that includes specialized clothing and equipment, Emporio Armani Underwear and the Swimwear range. The further up the building, the more selective and refined the choice of products become. On the first floor, the cosmetics area beckons, with its ultra-sophisticated range of products with Crema Nera and perfumes, followed by the area dedicated to Giorgio Armani and Emporio Armani shoes. From here it is a short hop to Giorgio Armani, Fashion, Classics and Eveningwear, all for women. Following the pathway of the staircase and descending a few steps, the space is dedicated exclusively to the fashion section of the Emporio Armani line for men. On the second floor, Emporio Armani, Giorgio Armani for men and Emporio Armani and Giorgio Armani shoes for men are displayed. This floor also houses Armani/Casa, offering a choice of objets; the space successfully evokes the huge Armani/Casa store in SoHo. Nearby there is a small area dedicated to the delights of Armani/Dolci, the first retail area for this collection of delicacies to open in the USA. On both the first and second level, two specific spaces have been conceived and reserved for a private VIP fitting room. From the Armani/Ristorante on the top floor, a fabulous view can be enjoyed—through an amber-colored filter—down Fifth Avenue, with Central Park in the background. A line of lighting on the ground leads to the entrance to the restaurant, emphasizing the sensuous curve of the wall. A virtual curtain is raised as you pass through it: the show begins, making the customer the star.

Rudy's Music

Theater District

Legendary by any musician's account, Rudy's has been in business seemingly as long as rock 'n roll itself. With a selection of new and used guitars that puts to shame the processed, corporate offerings of neighboring—and unmentionable—big box stores, Rudy's has earned their reputation as being the musician's shop of choice. For those in need of unbeatable servicing and repair, try Rudy's Repair Shop around the corner.

Midtown Comics - West

Theater District

The Mecca of New York's considerable comic book culture, Midtown Comics sits on one of the largest inventories of graphic novels, comics, manga, and novels of any specialty store in the country, owing mostly to their hugely popular online store.
